Polly has been teaching people to use their voices in a variety of styles for more than 15 years in her private studio. Located in Damascus, MD, her studio draws youth and adults from Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, and Carroll Counties and beyond. She is a member of the National Association of the Teachers of Singing and a Past President of the MD/DC Chapter of that organization. Polly completed the Total Singer Workshop with Lisa Popeil in January 2019 and the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University Conservatory in 2017. She holds a double masters degree in vocal performance and choral conducting from the University of Maryland and a BA in vocal performance from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
With more than 25 students in her private studio, Polly teaches those who are pursuing musical careers and those who sing as an avocation. Her students have pursued degrees at schools including the University of Maryland, American University, Towson University, Susquehanna University, Lawrence University, Marymount Manhattan, Ryder University, Ithaca College, Lycoming College, and Messiah College.
Students typically come weekly for 30-minute or 45-minute lessons, depending on level of experience. Daytime and evening lessons may be available. Studio recitals are scheduled at least two times a year, and this gives students an opportunity to perform and collaborate with other musicians. Polly also works to provide students with additional performance opportunities through interaction with area schools, churches, and individuals seeking performers. Her students regularly participate in NATS Auditions and have advanced to the regional and national level in those competitions.
